Twin Bridge

Updated: 2010-02-20

Reminiscence of a Hometown was one of his achievements over this tour, during which he truthfully depicted the watery scenery of Zhouzhuang. Reminiscence of a Hometown reflects the nostalgia of this overseas student.

In October in New York, this painting and 37 others were displayed in Hammer Gallery, owned by Armands Hammer, the CEO of American Occidental Petroleum Corporation. All of them earned great success among American audiences, especially the ones that combined techniques from canvas and Chinese monochromes. Scenic features like small bridges, running brooks, and rural cottages took audiences into an extraordinary land.

Bold Challenge To Western Trend issued by Art News, an American magazine, specifically introduced the artistic achievements of Chen Yifei. When visiting China in Nov.1984, Armands Hammer bought Reminiscence of a Hometown and sent it to Deng Xiaoping as a present. Hence, Chen's painting not only ushered the then-unknown Twin Bridge to the world, but also was used as a key to open the doors of international communication.
