Zhangjiagang sees 5.8% growth in exports in Jan-Feb

Zhangjiagang in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, witnessed a 5.8-percent increase in its exports, reaching a total value of 20.22 billion yuan ($2.79 billion) in the first two months of the year.

Since the beginning of 2024, the city has seen an optimizing foreign trade structure, a significant increase in new projects, and accelerated progress on construction of overseas warehouses and cross-border e-commerce industrial parks.

Mechanical and electrical products were the main driving force behind Zhangjiagang's export growth. From January to February, exports of such products reached 5.91 billion yuan, marking a substantial 19.6 percent year-on-year increase and constituting 29.2 percent of the city's total export value.

Notably, products like lithium-ion batteries have become new highlights in Zhangjiagang's exports, with volume reaching 7.78 million. This reflected a 71.2-percent increase compared to the same period last year and further solidified the city's advantage in the new energy sector.

Furthermore, there has been a notable resurgence in the export of labor-intensive products. Yarn exports amounted to 3.28 billion yuan, up 21.1 percent year-on-year, while clothing exports reached 2.48 billion yuan, a modest 2.6-percent increase. Exports of plastic products surged to 1.15 billion yuan, marking an impressive 57.6 percent growth compared to last year.
