Preparations to build a cross-river bridge connecting the cities of Zhangjiagang, Jingjiang and Rugao in East China's Jiangsu province are now underway, according to local media reports on Nov 23.

The Zhang-Jing-Gao Yangtze River Bridge is located about 28 kilometers downstream of the Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge and about 16 km upstream of the Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge.

The total length of the bridge will be around 29.8 km and its main span is set to measure 2,300 meters. It will start from Shanghai-Xi'an Expressway in Rugao and end at Zhangjiagang Shugang Expressway.

Four interchanges, one service area, one management center and one maintenance site will be built with the bridge.

In addition, the construction of the bridge will set a number of world records, including for being the largest span bridge and the largest span suspension bridge with the largest anchorage foundation, the largest continuous length steel box girder, the longest main cable, and the highest steel-concrete composite cable tower.
