The launch ceremony for the construction of the Sino-German Zero Carbon Park and the signing event for key projects from German-speaking regions were held in Taicang, a county-level city in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, on Feb 27.

Taicang, serving as a bridgehead for Sino-German cooperation, has attracted over 560 German enterprises, creating a comprehensive ecosystem for collaboration across industries, culture, and green development.

The Sino-German Zero Carbon Park is China's pioneer in securing dual certification for zero carbon emissions from both Chinese and German authorities.

Developed under the framework of the Sino-German Energy Efficiency Working Group, which was established by China's National Development and Reform Commission and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action in June 2024, the project is a collaborative effort between the Taicang High-Tech Zone and the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

With a construction period of 2.5 years, it will focus on six key areas, including zero-carbon planning, energy-saving measures, and dual certification, aiming to establish a replicable and economically viable "Taicang Model" for zero-carbon park development.

During the event, agreements for 10 projects from German-speaking regions were signed, spanning high-end equipment, semiconductor laser technology, and new materials.

Notably, the precision spring project, receiving a total investment of $20 million from KERN-Liebers, is expected to generate an additional annual output value of 300 million yuan ($43.44 million), while Schaeffler's phase II project relating to electric drives will utilize digital and green technologies to produce innovative electric drive components for new energy vehicles. It is projected to add 1.5 billion yuan in annual output value.
