Schaeffler recently marked a significant achievement as the 100,000th set of high-torque coaxial gearboxes produced in China rolled off the production line at its manufacturing base in Taicang, Suzhou, Jiangsu province.

The production line, which commenced production at the end of 2023, is the first high-volume production line of the new energy phase at Schaeffler's Taicang manufacturing base.

The high-torque coaxial gearbox, developed and mass-produced by Schaeffler for Zeeker, is a popular new energy vehicle model. It boasts industry-leading performance in torque, power, and lightweight design, solidifying Schaeffler's position as a key player in the electrification sector.

In February of this year, Schaeffler also initiated the commissioning of a second production line, with plans for it to be operational by August. It is projected that the new line will achieve an annual production capacity of 500,000 sets.

Schaeffler's rapid growth in Taicang is attributed to the robust support of the region's favorable industrial ecosystem. Huang Chao, head of Schaeffler's electric mobility business in China, emphasized that leveraging the advantages of the Yangtze River Delta region's industrial clusters, particularly the close collaboration between Shanghai and Taicang in terms of supply chains and talent pool, has enabled Schaeffler to establish a strong presence within the local industrial cluster, facilitating seamless cooperation across the entire industrial chain.

Furthermore, the new energy vehicle core component industry is a key supported sector in the Taicang High-Tech Zone. The zone is continuing to develop multiple core new energy vehicle industrial chains, including automotive drive systems, battery electronic control systems, and core components.

The Lexy new energy vehicle parts project was recently established in the zone, focusing on the precision machining of components such as electric motor housings, inverter housings, and gearbox casings for companies like Schaeffler in Taicang.

"Schaeffler is steadfast in its belief in and commitment to the development of China's new energy sector and is eager to continue expanding its new energy business in the Taicang High-Tech Zone," stated Huang.
