A special logistics train carrying nearly 1,000 metric tons of polyester fibers departed from the cargo yard of Zhangjiagang North Station, bound for Shangrao, Jiangxi province, on Jan 20.

The inaugural journey of this special train marks a major step forward for Zhangjiagang's railway logistics in serving key industries and developing customized train services. Unlike road transport, this customized train offers a seamless, one-ticket service without the hassle of container changes or unpacking, enabling delivery within just two days and reducing logistics costs by 20 percent to 30 percent.

The cargo yard of Zhangjiagang North Station, which commenced operations on Nov 28, 2025, covers an area of approximately 123,000 square meters. Equipped with specialized loading and unloading lines and facilities, it has an annual cargo handling capacity of 3 million tons, meeting the logistics needs of various industrial finished goods and fast-moving consumer goods.

"We plan to launch a special train service to Guangdong tailored to Zhangjiagang's core-spun yarn industry, with an expected frequency of one train per week," said a staff member from China Railway Shanghai Group. This initiative is expected to establish an efficient logistics channel for over 200 core-spun yarn enterprises in Zhangjiagang, continuously driving down costs and improving efficiency.
