The opening ceremony of the Benecke Changshun Asia-Pacific R&D Center was held in the Zhangjiagang Bonded Area on Jan 16.

Benecke Changshun Auto Trim (Zhangjiagang) is a joint venture between Germany's ContiTech Group and Jiangsu Changshun Group, specializing in the manufacturing of high-end automotive interior materials. ContiTech Group, established in 1991, is part of Continental AG — a Fortune Global 500 company — and a global leader in non-tire rubber and plastic products.

In 2024, Benecke Changshun invested 170 million yuan ($24.41 million) in the construction of its Asia-Pacific R&D Center. Once operational, the center will serve over 50 Tier 1 automotive parts suppliers and more than 20 renowned domestic and international automakers.

Philip Nelles, CEO of ContiTech, said that with the support of the local government and the launch of the Asia-Pacific R&D Center, the company will be able to respond more quickly to the needs of customers in the Asia-Pacific region. The company is committed to providing the Asia-Pacific market with more innovative, sustainable, and high-quality surface solutions, striving to create a better future and greater value for China's automotive industry.
