The "Traces of Time: A Retrospective of Wang Qi's Woodblock Prints" exhibition, jointly organized by the Wang Qi Art Museum in Chongqing and Zhangjiagang Art Museum in Suzhou, Jiangsu province opened on July 20 and will run until August 13.
A total of 39 artworks by the veteran printmaker are on display. The first section of the exhibition features 14 pieces created from 1939 to 1948 in Chongqing, depicting scenes during the Chinese War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
The second section features 15 artworks from the years 1954 to 1977 which depict workers in various sectors such as industry, water conservation, and forestry. The third section presents 10 pieces created between 1979 and 1987, celebrating the achievements made since the launch of the reform and opening-up policy.
This exhibition marks the second collaboration between the Zhangjiagang Art Museum and Wang Qi Art Museum since they signed a cooperation agreement in February of this year. It is aimed at bringing the art and legacy of Wang to a broader audience and fostering cultural exchange between the two institutions.
The exhibition also provides a historical narrative of China's transformative periods. Through his profound and thought-provoking artwork, Wang captures significant moments in Chinese history, conveying powerful messages of resilience, sacrifice, and progress.
