The MSC Gemma, the third ship in a series of the world's largest 24,000 TEU container vessels, was recently delivered. The ship's steel plates were supplied by Jiangsu Shagang Group in Zhangjiagang, Suzhou, Jiangsu province.
With a total length of 399.99 meters, MSC Gemma is 60 meters longer than the world's largest aircraft carrier. It has a molded breadth of 61.5 meters and its deck is as large as four standard football fields. In addition, with a molded depth of 33.2 meters, the ship can hold up to 25 layers of containers, which is equivalent to the height of a 22-story building. The vessel can carry over 240,000 metric tons of cargo.
Shagang Group, a leading steelmaker in China, produces steel plates with excellent metallurgical quality, low-temperature impact resilience, and high welding efficiency, among other advantages.
Last March, the Fast4Ward floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel also used nearly 20,000 tons of Shagang's steel plates.
In addition to vessels, many infrastructure projects around the world, such as the Padma Bridge in Bangladesh and the Zhangjiagang-Jingjiang-Rugao Yangtze River Bridge, also used steel products manufactured by Shagang.
