Wu Huifang, Party secretary of Yonglian village in Zhangjiagang, Suzhou, Jiangsu province and a deputy to the National People's Congress, made a suggestion about recognizing more demonstration areas for common prosperity and promoting their experiences nationwide this year.
The idea came after seeing the dramatic changes in Yonglian village, which was once the least developed village in southern Jiangsu during the 1970s. The village is now a prosperous area with modernized agriculture and diversified industries. It is also home to 25,000 permanent residents, who have access to amenities like schools, hospitals, supermarkets, and cinemas.
According to Wu, many regions across the country, just like Yonglian, have made significant progress in poverty alleviation and common prosperity in the past decade. The success of these areas, Wu added, should be replicated in more areas.
