Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, held an activity on Dec 5 to celebrate International Volunteer Day.

Eighty locals who each clocked more than 5,000 volunteer hours received a Lifetime Achievement Award during the activity.

Among these volunteers is 70-year-old Lu Dedi, who has done almost 6,000 hours of volunteering since 2018. "I am still full of vigor when doing volunteer services and will continue helping people as long as I can," she said.

A signing ceremony for a fund that will sponsor 10 voluntary projects was also held that same day.

Zhangjiagang has been taking measures such as building a volunteer academy and setting standards for voluntary services stations to push forward the development of its volunteer services.

Established in 2012, the "Friendly Zhangjiagang" website (zjgyouai.cn) is China's first digital management system for voluntary services. The website currently has 280,000 registered volunteers and 1,389 volunteer teams who have done a combined 10 million hours of volunteering. About 300 volunteer activities are launched on the website every day.
