Jiangsu Beier Machinery Co, a plastics machinery manufacturer in Zhangjiagang, Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, was the only one in the city included in a list of "little giants" recently released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

A "little giant" refers to a small and medium-sized enterprise that is innovative, specializes in a certain sector and has a dominant share of a niche market.

Established in 1998, Beier is now the vice-president of the China Plastics Machinery Industry Association and has 38,000 square meters of factory space, 300 employees and 118 patents, including 25 invention patents. The company has also contributed to the formulation of many national or industry standards and won recognition for its credibility.

One of Beier's products, an equipment that can recycle high-value plastic wastes such as high-pressure composite pipe and small home appliances, holds the biggest share in its category.

The company will make more efforts on research and development, manufacturing, and online services to innovate its technologies and pursue green development.

Zhangjiagang is now home to eight "little giants". The local government has assigned staff members to more than 40 national and provincial-level "little giants" this year to help update them on the latest policies and address their concerns.
