The bureau of housing and urban-rural development of Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, plans to build 30 pocket parks in its downtown area this year.
Construction of nine of the parks has already started. According to the bureau's plans, several squares, bus stops and vacant lots in the city will be transformed into parks with amusement zones for kids and other facilities.
The pocket parks are expected to beautify the city's environment and provide a place for people to rest and do exercise.
Four pocket parks in Zhangjiagang have already been honored as being among the best in Suzhou.
