Farmers in Yonglian village, Nanfeng town, Zhangjiagang can monitor their crops in real time thanks to the wide application of digital technologies.
With the rapid development of new generation information technologies like 5G, big data, cloud computing, the internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence, and blockchain, Yonglian village has sped up its efforts to construct a digital countryside in recent years, which has yielded fruitful results.
Currently, a data center station covering the collection, management, sharing, and exchange of data has been set up in the village, with 22 application systems installed, which has greatly improved the village's digital management, as well as helped Yonglian build a new digital infrastructure.
"With the help of IoT technology, we can monitor the vegetables growing in greenhouses in real time, which helps farmers work in a scientific way, improves labor productivity, and saves labor costs," said Huang Guanming, a local official.
Digital technologies have also helped the village's COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control work. Villagers were asked to pass the real-name verification and facial recognition systems to enter the village, making it easier for its daily management.
Wu Huifang, secretary of Yonglian's Party committee, said that the village is accelerating its pace to build a "Digital Yonglian." A wide range of digital application scenarios will be developed to build it into a national model of digital village construction. More replicated and promoted achievements will be made to inject more momentum into the country's rural revitalization efforts.
