A kite flying competition for farmers was held in Zhangjiagang, Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province on Oct 19.

Twenty-one teams from Jiangsu participated in the event and flew kites of various designs such as whales, horses, and the Monkey King.

Guo Wenshan, a 68-year-old man from Zhenjiang, made a dragon kite measuring 55 meters long for this competition.

The competition, which was organized by the bureau of agriculture and rural affairs of Suzhou, the Zhangjiagang municipal government, and other departments, was part of a series of sports and cultural activities for farmers in Suzhou.

The competition is expected to help develop the sports sector in rural areas and encourage more farmers to help revitalize their villages, said Qiu Feng, an official at the bureau of agriculture and rural affairs of Suzhou.
