Zhangjiagang in East China's Jiangsu province has in recent years been taking various measures in areas such as education, senior care, medical treatment, and employment to improve the wellbeing of its residents.
To make life more convenient for local residents, Zhangjiagang plans to upgrade 28 farm produce markets from 2020 to 2021. More parks have been built to enhance leisure offerings.
Over the past five years, the city has built and renovated 57 schools to optimize the allocation of educational resources.
In terms of senior care, aside from nursing institutions, senior centers, and community-based elderly care service centers, Zhangjiagang also offers subsidies to senior citizens facing difficulties and those aged 80 and above.

The city has established work rooms for medical experts and family doctors in villages and communities, allowing local residents to enjoy high-quality medical resources without having to traveling long distances.

Through the provision of skill training and employment promotion, Zhangjiagang created jobs for 79,700 residents from 2016 to 2020, and the per capita disposable income of its urban and rural residents exceeded 60,000 yuan ($9,331) during that period.
