Lixiang, a village in Zhangjiagang, East China's Jiangsu province, has been seeking to upgrade its rural administration through digital means, local media reported on Sept 12.

The presence of large-scale administrative areas, frequent population flow and disorganized living environment has been posing a challenge for the village in recent times.

Last year, the village launched a mobile application called "smart village" to leverage technology in its efforts to improve its administration processes. In second half of that year, Lixiang also piloted a work point-based administration system.

Lixiang villagers can now earn work points for certain tasks which can be used to exchange gifts through an app. The app also allows villagers to highlight their problems to the village committee, which would then identify ways to solve the issues.

As a supplement to the app, the village has also established three service centers where villagers can report their problems to village cadres.

Various other services can also be found at the center, including free online medical consultation.

Moving forward, Lixiang plans to install surveillance cameras at crossings, main roads, and garbage stations to further improve rural administration.
