A total of 165 girls from Yanhe Tujia autonomous county in Southwest China's Guizhou province received subsidies worth nearly 500,000 yuan ($77,305) from Zhangjiagang, East China's Jiangsu province during a Spring Bud project donation ceremony held in the county on Sept 7 to 8.
Some 3,000 yuan of subsidies were given to each girl, and Qiao Xiaoyan, one of the beneficiaries, said that she would repay the society in the future.
In 2017, Zhangjiagang and Yanhe established pairing-assistance relations and the city has since launched several campaigns such as the Spring Bud project to support students in Yanhe.
The Spring Bud project is led by the All-China Women's Federation and aims to help girls in Guizhou who face difficulties in completing their studies.
Local authorities and State-owned companies in Zhangjiagang have to date donated more than 6.76 million yuan to support 2,422 girls in Yanhe.
Du Juan, the chairwoman of the women's federation of Yanhe county, hopes that the students will have a promising future and give back to the society and their hometowns in the future.
