Zhangjiagang city – administered by Suzhou in East China's Jiangsu province – recently issued a total of 5.3 million yuan ($823,060) in one-time subsidies to grain farmers, in a bid to ensure and stabilize their incomes from the crops, the Zhangjiagang official WeChat account reported on Aug 12.

It is understood that the amount of subsidy will be determined by the sown area for summer wheat in 2021 and the sown area for rice and miscellaneous grain in the field in autumn.

The actual scope of the grain subsidy program for farmers in 2021 covers 13 towns (districts, sub-districts and companies), 144 villages and 2,324 farmers.

The subsidy quantum was determined at 12.33 yuan per mu (about 0.067 hectare), according to the city's agricultural authorities.

The one-time subsidies reportedly began being issued from the end of July.
