Zhangjiagang in East China's Jiangsu province has an ample harvest of 193,200 mu (12,880 hectares) of summer wheat, and 244,000 mu of rice was also sowed at the same time, according to news released by the Zhangjiagang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs on June 22.
The second half of May is the prime wheat harvest season. More than 2,100 sets of farm machinery, such as combine harvesters, rice transplanters and tractors, have been used to help with summer sowing and reaping, and the process now boasts a mechanized sowing and reaping rate of over 99.5 percent. A total of 79 agricultural machinery professional cooperatives have played a leading role in the agricultural work.
The summer harvest season this year has featured sunny days, which is good news for farmers. Agricultural technicians have been assigned to instruct farmers in the reaping process.
Experts suggest that the systematic management of rice growing should be strengthened. Farmers must also focus on the prevention and control of pests and plant diseases, and aim to raise the crop's ability to weather disasters.
