The total cargo throughput of Zhangjiagang Port, East China's Jiangsu province exceeded 63.93 million metric tons in the first three months of the year, growing by 15.99 percent year-on-year.

Authorities said that innovative measures will be taken to promote the high-quality development of the port so that it can better serve the local economy during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).

An array of preferable policies have been rolled out and they have greatly reduced the shipping costs of seagoing vessels, and helped enterprises improve their service quality and efficiency. Due to the port's efforts, exports of high added-value equipment totaled 231,000 tons and were valued at 2.88 billion yuan ($439.63 million) in the first quarter of this year, according to official data.

The business environment of the port has seen further improvements due to the continued reform of government functions. The port has also introduced an innovative management system to accelerate its digital transformation, enabling all government affairs to be processed online.
