The county-level city of Zhangjiagang, Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province saw growth in its foreign trade in the first two months of this year, according to statistics released by the city's customs authorities.
Official data shows that the total value of foreign trade in Zhangjiagang increased 8.9 percent year-on-year in January and February to 37.3 billion yuan ($5.73 billion).
The city's private sector made up the bulk of Zhangjiagang's foreign trade in the first two months. Private enterprises in Zhangjiagang reported total foreign trade worth 21.97 billion yuan, up 5.4 percent year-on-year and accounting for 58.9 percent of the city's total, demonstrating the flexibility and resilience of private enterprises.
Textile and garment, and steel products were Zhangjiagang's main exports in the first two months, accounting for 34.5 percent of the city's total exports.
Zhangjiagang's foreign trade with the European Union, the United States, Japan, and South Korea reported strong growth in the January to February period.
