The county-level city of Zhangjiagang, East China's Jiangsu province, saw strong consumption during this year's Spring Festival holiday, which ran from Feb 11 to 17, according to a local news report.

The city's main merchants offered a variety of perks, including subsidies and consumption coupons, to promote consumption.

Statistics from the city's commerce bureau show that its 10 key commercial complexes earned 121 million yuan ($18.68 million) in total sales revenue during the holiday, up 183.7 percent from 2020 and 41.7 percent from 2019.

Migrant workers responded to the stay-put call and chose to remain at their current location for the Spring Festival this year, in an effort to alleviate the travel rush and curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in an increase in sales among local businesses.
