Zhangjiagang, a port city along the Yangtze River, will ramp up efforts to develop its digital economy and accelerate the integration of digitalization with industrialization, according to a statement at a conference held in the city on Jan 18.

Pan Guoqiang, Party secretary of Zhangjiagang, said that the municipal government will make strong efforts to transform traditional industries and accelerate the innovative application of Internet Plus in order to consolidate the foundation for high-quality development. The city will also accelerate the digital transformation of the economy and society in a bid to foster new emerging industries.

This year marks the launch of the 14th Five-Year Plan, and Zhangjiagang will continue to implement an innovation-driven development strategy. Efforts will also be made to facilitate the research and development of innovative technologies related to the digital economy in order to foster the application and commercialization of scientific research, according to Pan.

He also said that the city will further optimize its entrepreneurship and innovation environment and introduce measures to attract more digital talent.

In addition, a digital government will be developed to improve government service capabilities and establish an integrated service platform for handling government affairs, Pan added.

Han Wei, mayor of the city, said that governments at all levels should seize opportunities to promote the integrated development of the advanced manufacturing industry and producer services such as research, development, design, modern logistics, inspection, testing, and certification.
