People in Xigang village, Jinfeng town, Zhangjiagang, East China's Jiangsu province, are living in a clean and beautiful environment thanks to the local government's efforts to boost rural revitalization in recent years, local media reported Nov 26.

"The village carried out a range of activities to improve the environment and rural living conditions, building a cultural square and a fitness park to make it a more comfortable place to live," said local resident Tao Zhenghua.

In recent years, Xigang village has beefed up efforts to strengthen rural environmental protection, and dredge and broaden waterways. The village has also increased investment in infrastructure to improve living conditions and increase the villagers' happiness index.

"Paved roads were built in the village and electricity and an optical network covered all the area, making it convenient for us to travel," said Tao.

The improved environment has bolstered the boom in local industries in Xigang village, and paved its own way to prosperity.

In recent years, land transfers have been widely used as a new method to increase the incomes of local farmers. In 2018, about 70 hectares of land were transferred to enable 605 greenhouses to be built to plant vegetables and fruit, bringing in 90,000 yuan ($13,650) per hectare, which has greatly promoted the development of large-scale farming in Xigang.
