The county-level city of Zhangjiagang in East China's Jiangsu province inked a strategic cooperation agreement with the Suzhou branch of China Mobile on Nov 24, and both sides agreed to promote the construction of a "Smart Zhangjiagang" in the near future, local media reported.
In recent years, the continuous advancement of information technology has brought about profound changes in society, including the creation of opportunities and challenges for humans, and Zhangjiagang has seized opportunities to accelerate the development of digital economy and smart city construction by cooperating with the country's leading information and communications enterprises such as Huawei and Tencent.
The city has achieved significant progress in areas including intelligent transformation and infrastructure upgrading, and its intelligent manufacturing has led the province in recent years, with the scale of its digital economy exceeding 120 billion yuan ($18.24 billion) in 2019, accounting for 42 percent of its GDP.
Han Wei, deputy Party secretary of Zhangjiagang, said that the cooperation agreement will speed up the development of the city's industrial digitization and digital industrialization, injecting strong imputes into the city's development.
Han added the Zhangjiagang government will beef up efforts to foster new growth drivers through innovation and develop the city into a highland for the development of digital economy.
