The port city of Zhangjiagang in East China's Jiangsu province has made remarkable progress in helping Yanhe Tujia autonomous county, Guizhou province, move out of poverty, according to a local news report Oct 17.

In recent years, Zhangjiagang has made great efforts to reduce poverty in the county by boosting employment and industrial development, with a number of industrial projects launched in Yanhe that are helping consolidate development in the region.

The city also has set up vocational education and training centers in Yanhe. Special poverty-relief projects were launched, giving students from poor families opportunities to learn useful skills and techniques.

Since 2017, industries with local characteristics have been developed with the help of Zhangjiagang, aiming to promote the transformation and upgrading of Yanhe's traditional agriculture. Characteristic agricultural model, which focuses on ecological breeding and farming, tea planting and rural tourism, has taken shape in the county.

Zhangjiagang also helped Yanhe establish online and offline platforms to promote local agricultural products, aiming to increase the production and income of impoverished residents.

Private enterprises in Zhangjiagang have played an important role in the city's poverty alleviation campaign.

Jiangsu Shagang Group, a Global Fortune 500 enterprise, offered 100,000 yuan ($14,126) to families in poverty-stricken villages, while Jiangsu Yonggang Group helped boost consumption of agricultural products from Yanhe Tujia autonomous county. Both projects have benefited local villagers and helped them increase their incomes.
