Farmers in the county-level city of Zhangjiagang, East China's Jiangsu province, are using advanced technologies to promote agricultural mechanization and large-scale farming, local media reported Oct 20.

Currently, Zhangjiagang has 71 agricultural machinery service organizations, and the operation area of agricultural mechanization has exceeded 80 percent, helping to increase incomes for local farmers.

Local authorities said that large-scale farming offers a great platform for Zhangjiagang to promote agricultural mechanization, which in turn makes traditional farming smarter, with the city's overall level of mechanization in ploughing, sowing and harvesting reaching 95.9 percent, ranking first in Jiangsu.

Wheat and rice are the main food crops in Zhangjiagang, and the city's food crop production has basically achieved mechanization of all its agricultural production processes.

The city has made full preparations for the autumn harvest and cultivation, with more than 1,600 modern agricultural machines and tools, such as combine harvesters and tractors ready for the coming autumn harvest season.

A special activity was also organized by the city's agriculture and rural affairs bureau to showcase Zhangjiagang's development in agricultural mechanization, as a way to promote the transformation and upgrading of the city's crop production.
