The county-level city of Zhangjiagang in East China's Jiangsu province has been making strong efforts to upgrade its ports in recent years in an effort to make it more intelligent, according to a local media report on Sept 26.
With the help of internet plus technologies, Zhangjiagang recently built a smart command center and established an automatic production line by integrating all of the port's production factors, allowing for increased data interconnectivity at the port.
This development has greatly optimized the port's operation efficiency. Its cargo throughput capacity exceeded 42 million metric tons in the January-August period this year, bucking a global slowdown, and it earned more than 100 million yuan ($14.97 million) in profit during this period, achieving a record high.
The port has also made great progress in becoming more ecofriendly by taking full advantage of its smart technologies.
"Zhangjiagang will continue to make its port more intelligent and competitive in order to accelerate its integration with the rapidly developing Yangtze River Delta," said Zhang Jie, an official of the port.
