The third Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival took place on Sept 22, with the main event in Jiangsu being held in Yonglian village of Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Jiangsu province. The festival also celebrated the village's 50th anniversary.

During the festival, a series of activities were held, including sporting events, agricultural product fairs, farming culture shows, and modern agricultural exhibitions, showcasing Jiangsu's achievements in poverty alleviation and ensuring the creation of a moderately prosperous society by the end of the year.

Wu Huifang, Party secretary of the village, said that special areas were set up during the festival to promote characteristic agricultural products from Tongren in Guizhou and Gongliu, a county in Xinjiang Tygur autonomous region, in an effort to showcase the remarkable results made by Zhangjiagang's "paired assistance" program, as well as promote consumption-driven poverty alleviation in poverty-stricken areas.

Wu added that an array of online and offline activities were organized at the same time, including selling products through live streaming platforms.

A live streaming event kicked off on the same day, with many geographical indication products from across Jiangsu on display, as well as agricultural products from the country's western regions.

In recent years, Zhangjiagang has beefed up efforts to promote the modernization of agriculture and rural areas. Local authorities said that in the future, the city will continue to promote its industries, natural environment, and living standards in order to develop into a more livable and beautiful city.
