The port city of Zhangjiagang in East China's Jiangsu province has made significant progress in rural revitalization by upgrading the structure of its rural industries and promoting the development of beautiful rural areas, according to a local news report.
Yonglian village, located in the city, has established a new model for rural tourism by promoting the integrated development of its primary, secondary, and tertiary industries. The village was named a National Civilized Village, and in 2019, it received more than 1 million visitors, according to Chen Jianxin, an official of the village.
Yonglian's success has been emulated by other villages in Zhangjiagang. Fenghuang town, for example, has developed a peach theme park by offering visitors a variety of different travel packages for different seasons. These include viewing peach flowers in March and April, picking honey peaches in July and August, and making peach wine in November. This has helped the village develop a new development model for rural revitalization that integrates featured agriculture and leisure tourism.
Zhangjiagang is now home to many national and provincial tourist attractions, and by the end of 2019, the city's leisure agriculture had attracted more than 6.4 million tourists.
In the future, the city hopes to attract more high-level agricultural talent, develop unique local farm products, and introduce more favorable policies in an effort to further accelerate the development of rural tourism and achieve rural revitalization, according to Xu Jiang, head of the city's bureau of agriculture and rural affairs.
