"The workshops introduce skill training and provide jobs for local residents," said Li Hong, an official of Gongliu county.

Currently, the workshops have introduced a number of industrial projects related to food, clothing, e-commerce and tourism, creating more than 300 jobs for locals.

In addition, Zhangjiagang has helped Gongliu optimize its industrial structure and set up an agricultural cooperative by developing the local peony industry in a village. This industry, which offers sightseeing services, seedlings, processed goods and cultural creative products, has increased the incomes of more than 3,000 farmers, lifting them out of poverty.
