A forum focusing on the application and commercialization of hydrogen energy was held in the port city of Zhangjiagang in East China's Jiangsu province July 18.

The forum was organized by Chinese train-builder CRRC Corporation's Suzhou branch, and gathered experts and scholars, as well as enterprise representatives from the hydrogen energy sector.

Hydrogen fuel is recognized as a clean energy and is widely used in multiple areas such as transport, power generation and industrial production, playing an important role in achieving energy self-sufficiency and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

The Suzhou branch of CRRC, founded in Zhangjiagang last year, focuses on the research and development of hydrogen energy. It has carried out many projects related to hydrogen energy, and achieved important results.

Zhu Longju, president of CRRC, said that the company will increase efforts to set up an innovative platform in Zhangjiagang to speed up the development of hydrogen energy.

CRRC said that it will invest 5 billion yuan ($717 million) to set up an industrial base for the development of hydrogen energy, and the base is expected to be completed by the end of 2021. Government officials said that it will be an important platform for Zhangjiagang to incubate hydrogen energy enterprises and cultivate high-level talents.
