Zhang Yueliang, a farmer in the county-level city of Zhangjiagang, Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, has planted honey peaches for 38 years, and he now benefits greatly from the local government's efforts to promote its characteristic agricultural products brands, according to a local media report July 9.

The city's Fenghuang town has been growing honey peaches for 70 years and now has a plantation area of 400 hectares, which has enabled farmers to increase their incomes to over 180,000 yuan ($26,000) per hectare.

Fenghuang town is one of the major production areas for honey peaches in China. The peaches are popular for their sweet, juicy taste and pleasant fragrance.

Fenghuang's honey peaches were awarded a registration certificate as a National Geographical Indication Product by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in April, which was a milestone for the development of Zhangjiagang's agricultural industry.

Since April, governments at all levels in Zhangjiagang have organized livestreaming and e-commerce promotions of honey peaches, greatly boosting sales.

In addition, a farming cooperative was set up in Fenghuang town to expand the scale of peach planting and enable farmers to further increase their incomes.
