Yonglian village in Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, has made great progress in rural revitalization, with its ecological environment and residents' living environment greatly improved, local news reported July 8.

The village was once the poorest area in Zhangjiagang. But with the continuous efforts of the local government, the village has risen to prosperity in recent years through promoting industrial diversification and upgrading, with the per capita income of villagers reaching nearly 45,000 yuan ($6,444) in 2018.

Local authorities said that they have fully exploited rural characteristic resources to boost the construction of a beautiful countryside.

Zhangjiagang also launched a pairing-up assistance program in 2017 to help Yanhe Tujia autonomous county in Guizhou province shake off poverty by skill training and education. The program has significantly boosted progress in the county and is expected to continue helping the county achieve prosperity.

The city helped the village emerge from poverty with the help of education, and nearly 500 students from Yanhe are studying at the Shazhou Professional Institute of Technology in Zhangjiagang, most of whom are from poor families in Yanhe.
