Private enterprises in Zhangjiagang, Suzhou, East China’s Jiangsu province are shouldering their responsibilities in the country's poverty alleviation campaign, local media reported on June 16.
Jiangsu Shagang Group, a World Top 500 enterprise, offered 100,000 yuan ($14,126.5) to families in poverty-stricken villages, while Jiangsu Yonggang Group helped boost consumption of agricultural products from Yanhe Tujia autonomous county, Guizhou province, both of which have benefited local villagers and helped them increase their incomes.
As early as 2018, the city had paired up with five poverty-stricken villages in Yanhe Tujia autonomous county, and carried out targeted poverty alleviation. Local authorities said that a long-term mechanism will be built in the near future to help farmers sell local agricultural products via e-commerce platforms.
Additionally, a special fund was allocated to support compulsory education in poverty-stricken villages in the county, helping to provide a quality education for children.
Over the past two years, nearly 600,000 yuan has been raised by entrepreneurs of the Zhangjiagang Federation of Industry and Commerce, helping nearly 100 outstanding students in the five villages.
The efforts made by local private enterprises have played an active role narrowing the wealth gap between eastern and western regions, and have benefited both sides.
