Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in East China's Jiangsu province is located in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It covers a total area of 999 square kilometers including a land area of 777 sq km.

There are 10 districts and towns, three blocks in Zhangjiagang, which also boasts two national development zones, one provincial high-tech zone and one provincial metallurgical industrial park. 

A total of 1.45 million people currently live in Zhangjiagang.

Zhangjiagang is a newly emerging port and industrial city at the intersection of the coastal and Yangtze River economic development zones. It is one of the economically strongest county-level cities in China and has made remarkable achievements in the economy, culture, finance, commerce and trade.

In 2022, enterprises above the designated size in Zhangjiagang achieved a gross output value of 594.4 billion yuan ($93.2 billion), while the cargo throughput through the city's ports was 245 million metric tons. Zhangjiagang also attracted $900 million in foreign investment and made outbound investments totaling $580 million.

The foreign trade of Zhangjiagang amounted to a record $46.67 billion in 2022, up 8 percent year-on-year. Exports were worth $20.39 billion, a 12-percent year-on-year increase, while the value of imports reached $26.28 billion, up 5.2 percent compared to 2021.

Zhangjiagang boasts the most intensive highway-waterway-railway-airway intermodal traffic network among China's county-level cities. It has an integrated network of river and sea ports, airports, expressways, a highway and railway arteries.


Zhangjiagang administrates eights towns and two districts. The eight towns are Jingang, Yangshe, Jinfeng, Tangqiao, Leyu, Fenghuang, Nanfeng and Daxin towns. The two districts are Changyinsha Modern Agricultural Demonstration Park and Shuangshan Island Tourism Resort.


In 2022, it remained in third place on the list of China's top 100 strongest counties.
