Zhangjiagang, East China’s Jiangsu province, ranked fourth among the top 100 counties in China in terms of the development of its manufacturing industry on the Report of the Top 100 Counties (cities) in China’s Manufacturing Industry. It ranked third in Jiangsu province, following Kunshan and Jiangyin.

The report was the result of a comprehensive evaluation of 400 counties and county-level cities, which took their industrial output, scale, profits, and number of employees into consideration.

A list of the top 100 counties (cities) in terms of business environment was also released that same day, with Zhangjiagang ranking 9th.

The evaluation was based on previous research on comprehensive competitiveness and investment potential in about 200 counties (cities) carried out by the National Academy of Economic Strategy.

A total of nine indicators were taken into consideration, including economic development, transparency of government affairs, taxes, legislative work efficiency, access to loans, research and development capabilities, transportation, and natural environment.
