The chief of Zhangjiagang city's Party committee said that the city is continuing its efforts to focus on difficulties in local sewage treatment.

During his inspection tour of three major sewage water treatment plants in the city, Xu Meijian also said that more efforts should be made to improve the living environment for residents in both urban and rural areas, and to promote the ecological progress.

In recent years, Zhangjiagang accelerated the development of local sewage treatment projects in towns and urban districts, and the sewage water treatment levels have improved and infrastructure has been upgraded.

The first phase projects in the city have increased the city's daily sewage treatment capacity by 92,000 tons. Last year, the amount of sewage water that was treated was twice the amount of the preceding year.

The city has also set up an underground sewage treatment plant, the first in Jiangsu province.
