The predecessor of Wuxi Library was Wuxi County Library, established in 1912, making it one of the earliest public libraries founded in China. It was renamed Wuxi Library in 1949. The new building of Wuxi Library was completed and opened in 2000.
The Rong Family Collection at Wuxi Library includes over 110,000 volumes donated by the Rong family, while the Friendship Collection features more than 10,000 original Japanese books, which are distinctive special collections.
The new library offers comprehensive modern communication facilities, internet access, multimedia guidance, and an automated management system.
The institution has set up over 20 service points, including book lending rooms, a 24-hour self-service library, and a reading room for visually impaired individuals. It features permanent exhibitions showcasing Wuxi-born academicians, generals, and other notable local figures. It also organizes diverse reader activities like exhibitions, lectures, and salons. The facility also operates 20 branch libraries and 37 mobile book stations.
Opening hours: 9 am - 5:30 pm (Some rooms extend hours until 9 pm from May 1 to Oct 31/Closed Wednesday mornings for maintenance).
