Taihu Lake, one of China's five major freshwater lakes and a key national scenic area, features Yuantouzhu in its northwest. The name, meaning "turtle's head-shaped peninsula", derives from a large rock that juts into Taihu Lake, resembling a swimming turtle raising its head.
The Yuantouzhu Scenic Area features over 10 scenic spots. It offers stunning natural landscapes, featuring sprawling mountains, large bodies of water, and scattered sailboats, along with charming villages and simple, elegant gardens typical of Jiangnan.
Yuantouzhu also provides a range of facilities for dining, transportation, lodging, shopping, and entertainment. The area's cultural appeal is enhanced by heritage elements such as stone inscriptions, calligraphy, paintings, and legends of renowned ancient scholars.
