Wuxi Shuofang Airport is the main airport serving Wuxi and nearby areas, including Suzhou. It is a modern, mid-sized facility that is relatively straightforward to navigate.
Location:
Situated on the border between Wuxi and Suzhou, it is about 30 kilometer from downtown Wuxi. The journey typically takes 30 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
Transportation to/from the airport:
Choosing the right option depends on your budget, group size, and final destination.
Subway (recommended & most reliable)
How: Take subway line 3 directly to/from Shuofang Airport Station (硕放机场站). The station is directly connected to the terminal.
Advantages: Avoids traffic, very cost-effective (about 5 to 8 yuan ($0.7-1.12)), and connects you directly to key points like Wuxi Railway Station (无锡火车站) and the city center (Sanyang Plaza).
Note: Check the last train time if you have a late flight.
Taxi/DiDi (Ride-hailing)
How: Follow signs to the official taxi stand outside the terminal arrivals hall. For DiDi, you can book on the app and may need to coordinate with the driver on the pickup floor (usually the same as taxis).
Cost: 50 yuan – 120 yuan to downtown Wuxi. Always ensure the meter is running.
Advantages: Door-to-door convenience, good for families or those with lots of luggage
Airport shuttle bus
How: Look for the shuttle bus counter or signs after you collect your baggage.
Routes: Several lines go to major transport hubs like Wuxi East Railway Station (无锡东站) and Changshu South Station (常熟南站).
Cost: 30 yuan – 90 yuan per person.
Advantages: Cheaper than a taxi for a solo traveler.
Private car
Many hotels and companies offer private car pickup services. Arrange the service in advance.
Tips:
Although the airport isn't very large, make sure to arrive early enough for check-in and security, especially during Chinese public holidays.
For international flights, aim to arrive at least two hours before departure.
The airport operates as both a civilian and military facility. Please follow the rules and refrain from taking random photos.
