Dangkou Ancient Town is Wuxi's only provincial-level renowned historical and cultural town. It is an open Jiangnan water town that combines culture, leisure, and sightseeing. The town features seven main scenic spots, built around historic residences of celebrities and cultural sites, with a focus on water, filial piety, and local celebrities.
The ancient town still features historical landmarks, including the Hua Family's coffin home, Hua Hengfang's former residence, and the opera tower at Zhifu Temple.
The Hua Family's coffin home is among the best preserved, largest, and longest-serving of its kind in Jiangnan. Founded in 1742 by Hua Jinsi and his son Hua Gongbi, it earned accolades from Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and was later expanded by the Hua family's descendants.
