The total import and export value of Wuxi in Jiangsu province has exceeded the 800 billion yuan ($114.83 billion) milestone for the first time, reaching 829.28 billion yuan in 2025, Wuxi Daily reported on Jan 14.
This marks a 7.6 percent year-on-year increase and accounts for 13.9 percent of the province's total volume.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2020-25), Wuxi's foreign trade started at 607.56 billion yuan in 2020 and has successively crossed the 700 billion and 800 billion yuan thresholds over five years, illustrating a clear upward trajectory.
In 2025, the number of companies in Wuxi with active import and export operations exceeded 14,000, up over 3,500 from the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), highlighting the sustained vitality of its foreign trade sector. Wuxi's trade partnerships have expanded to encompass 225 countries and regions.
Notably, the proportion of high-tech product exports has increased to 41.5 percent, underscoring the growing competitiveness of Wuxi's intelligent manufacturing on the international stage.
With 800 billion yuan as a new starting point, Wuxi is embracing the world with a more open approach.
The development of the new Wuxi Area within the China (Jiangsu) Pilot Free Trade Zone is progressing steadily, the international mail exchange bureau is set to commence operations, and new business models such as bonded maintenance are rapidly evolving.
From optimizing the business environment at local ports to expanding international logistics channels, and from nurturing new drivers of foreign trade to establishing high-level open platforms, Wuxi remains committed to achieving a higher level of openness.
