The 2025 World Taekwondo Championships are scheduled to be held at the Wuxi Taihu International Expo Center in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, from Oct 24 to 30, as announced during the press conference on Oct 21.
Founded in 1973, the World Taekwondo Championships are held every two years. It is the largest, oldest, and highest-level international taekwondo event, with ranking points second only to the Olympics. The competition includes eight weight classes for men and women each and uses a single-elimination format with a best-of-three rounds system.
The 2025 edition is set to host nearly 2,000 participants from about 200 countries and regions, making it the largest in history. As the first year of the new Olympic cycle, the event will feature five champions from the 2024 Paris Olympics and six from the previous world championships.
To improve event services and the spectator experience, the organizing committee has created an official website that consolidates visa, hotel, transportation, and ticketing services. It will also contain real-time updates on competition regulations, schedules, matchups, and results. The website offers multiple language options, a smart customer service system, as well as a dedicated media section to let global audiences experience the event atmosphere firsthand.
Alongside the main competition, the championships will have a Freestyle Poomsae Grand Prix, a taekwondo expo, and academic seminars centered on AI sports.
Over the past decade, Wuxi has collaborated closely with the World Taekwondo to co-create the Grand Slam Olympic Qualifier Series, providing taekwondo enthusiasts worldwide a pathway to Olympic participation.
Established in 2018, the World Taekwondo Wuxi Center has become a global management institution for WT, overseeing the creation of competition regulations and certification standards. Over time, Wuxi has built a complete industry ecosystem that encompasses hosting international competitions, establishing standards, and developing equipment.
