Imogen Pranger, a young director from the United States who loves handicrafts and stop-motion animation, extensively films the work of two artisans. The souls of those who love handicrafts are interconnected. The director and producer of the film follow the couple Yin Kang and Zhu Yunlan throughout their secluded creative process on Dongshan Island, Suzhou in East China's Jiangsu province. Only by returning to nature can one regain complete awareness and see the true face of the world through labor.
Yin and Zhu, one making hand fans and the other communicating with nature through plant dyes, show how tea leaves, mulberries, and flowers can serve as natural dyes, and the dyed fabric can be directly used to make tuanshan, or round fans. The entire process is quiet and elegant.
