The third episode of A Touch of Wuxi, a micro-documentary series about Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province, has been released.
Titled "The Whispered Wu Dialect Full of Poetic Jiangnan", this documentary explores the preservation of dialects and opera traditions in the city.
Wuxi, located in southern Jiangnan region, has its a unique linguistic and artistic heritage. For over 3,000 years, its people have expressed life's joys and sorrows through the lyrical Wu dialect and soulful folk songs—keeping the spirit of Jiangnan culture alive.
The episode highlights the Wu songs, folk melodies born from the Jiangnan region, misty waterways and lush landscapes.
It also celebrates the Xiju Opera, a century-old art form shaped by Wuxi's natural beauty. Each graceful movement and melodic note reflects the gentle yet enduring soul of this land.
Beyond Xiju Opera,Wuxi's cultural tapestry includes xuanjuan (story-singing), Wuxi pingqu (local narrative songs), and xiaorehun (comic performances) — each brimming with folk charm and artistic brilliance.
