Nobel Laureate appointed as honorary professor at Jiangnan University

Paul Nurse, Nobel Laureate and foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was recently appointed as an honorary professor at Jiangnan University in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province.

Nurse is dedicated to research in the field of yeast genetics and cytobiology. Utilizing the method in genetics and molecular biology, he found and explained the key mechanism of cell cycle regulation via cyclin-dependent kinases, which helped him secure the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2001.

Nurse has maintained long-term cooperation with academic institutions and pharmaceutical enterprises in China and contributed to exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and British academic circles. In 2015, he was elected as CAS's foreign academician.

Wu Zhengguo, Party secretary of JNU, noted at the appointment ceremony that he expects to enhance cooperation with Nurse in basic research fields, especially in biochemistry and cell biology.

Nurse said that he feels honored to become JNU's honorary professor and looks forward to making contributions to the university's talent cultivation, discipline development and international exchanges.
