"Xidao No 1", the first rice variety named after Wuxi, was officially approved by the Jiangsu Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee on June 3 and will be widely planted.
"Xidao No 1" was developed by Wuxi Hupper Seeds Technology Research Institute of Xishan National Modern Agricultural Industrial Park and the Institute of Crop Science of Zhejiang University, with anther culture technologies.
It is a green, early-ripe, high-yield, and delicious rice variety selected by multi-point experiments. Its yield per mu (0.07 hectares) is expected to reach 660 kilograms.
Workers in the R&D team were optimistic that "Xidao No 1" would become popular among consumers in the Jiangnan area.
