Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province has been recognized as one of the top 10 cities in the Chinese mainland in terms of comprehensive economic competitiveness and business environment by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, according to a report released on Oct 22.

The 18th report on China's urban competitiveness, which was compiled by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Economic Daily, compared the competitiveness of 291 Chinese cities in terms of economy, sustainability, livability, and business-friendliness over the past year.

This is the first time Wuxi has made the top 10 in comprehensive economic competitiveness, following Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Suzhou, Taipei, Nanjing, and Wuhan.

Local officials said that this achievement is due to the city's strategy of innovation-driven development and strong industry, as well as various polices to attract talent and develop modern industries.

In April, Wuxi unveiled 60 measures meant to further optimize its business environment, including increasing government service efficiency, building a standardized market environment, and promoting a fair legal system.

Wuxi also ranked 11st in terms of sustainable competitiveness on the report.
